ESERA 2019 was the 13th Biennial Conference of the European Science Education Research Association. ESERA was founded in Leeds, England, in April 1995.
The theme chosen for the conference was: “The beauty and pleasure of understanding: engaging with contemporary challenges through science education.” Bologna is, according to Times Higher Education, the most beautiful university in the world because of its historical buildings. We hope that the surroundings and the conference theme have inspired our research and helped the discussions during the conference.
The organisation of the conference was led by Olivia Levrini (Conference President) and Giulia Tasquier (Conference Manager), with the help of the Steering Committee, the Local Organising Committee, the Scientific Committee and the ESERA Executive Board. Technical and logistic support was provided by EGA worldwide.
ESERA is traditionally organised by a university in order to offer the opportunity to better know local researchers’ communities, as well as to enhance actions aimed at increasing the interest of PhD students toward science education research. Young researchers are very welcome in the ESERA conferences and there are several spaces especially designed for them to learn, discuss, share their ideas and develop themselves as professionals within a lively research context.
