Dear Colleagues,
The 17th Congress of the International Association for
Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes (IAGP) in association with
the Confederation of Italian Organizations for Analytic Research
on Groups (COIRAG) will convene in Rome, Italy August 24-29, 2009.
The theme of the Congress, Groups in a Time of Conflict, is
both a recognition of the stressful and chaotic times in which we
live, and an appreciation of the confluence of the power of culture
and society upon the individual, and hence the groups in which we
are members.
This Congress will provide a platform for investigation,
analysis and dialogue of issues and processes that affect
all of us regardless of our ethnic, cultural, political
similarities or differences. As group workers we are aware
that boundaries are fluid and the interplay between what
is "in" and what is "out" of the consultation room informs
our interventions. We are committed not only to the people
who we work with, but also to the world group. We need
to continue to raise our consciousness about such global
issues as trauma, poverty, hunger, war and natural disasters.
We need to increase our understanding of the contemporary
political and geographic transformations.
Most recently, the European Union is concerned with issues
of population migration. This is an ancient phenomenon
arising in many areas of the world and raises questions
of culture and identity for both the immigrants and the
host community.
Questions to be asked: How do such conditions affect our
sense of safety and survival? How does this manifest itself
in the clinical, organizational and social-educational
arena? How powerful is the effect of the leader on the
individual, the group and society? How does one explore,
dialogue and overcome the fears and instability of the
fragmented self and a fragmented society? How do individuals,
organizations, societies and governments heal? How can
we, with our knowledge of group processes, help?
Topics may also focus on advances in clinical and organizational
theory, neurobiology, sociology and political science as
relevant to our work with members and functioning of our
groups
We invite you to join us in this journey by submitting
proposals for Workshops, Symposiums, Courses, Ongoing Experiential
Groups, Paper Panels, Posters and Video Sessions.
Submissions are due October 15, 2008 via the online submission
form.
We look forward to receiving your proposal and to an exciting
Congress in 2009.
Arrivederci A Roma!
